It’s more than just a background picture holding all your icons in place. The desktop wallpaper you choose says something about you. The wallpaper is there behind everything else on your desktop; there when, if you use Fences, you make all the icons “disappear”!
My wallpaper is a beautiful photo of my kids both looking directly at the camera, which means looking at me! When I miss them, which is often now since they both live away, I just minimize all my open pages, double-click to make my icons disappear behind the “fences” and gaze at them both gazing lovingly back at me.
What’s your wallpaper? Do you have photos, motivational quotes, dream pictures (making your screen a vision board), or something else on your screen? Let us look over your shoulder to see your monitor.

The Desktop Wallpaper represents the great happiness whenever we open our laptops. I usually have the wallpaper for my god, nature, family, myself. I used to change it within regular intervals of time. The image you have shown in your article is very beautiful, It can further be changed by just adding some creativity like writing names and lots more.
@Senior Pictures Hi David, welcome to Life, for instance. Sorry so long in welcoming you. I've been away for a while. It sounds like you have a good system for your wallpaper!

Hey Lori, it's a house in France that was for sale three years ago near a place called Carcassone. It has light blue shutters, a large wooden door and there is lavender in the window boxes. In one window is a little balcony. It was sold (I kept my eye on it) it may not be that house we move to, but it reminds me of my love of France and soon...xxx
@Dawn Barclay Hi Dawn! I see you living in a house very much like that one day, don't you? What a great way to seed something into your subconscious mind!
Hi @Lori What a great idea to ask people to share their desktop wall paper for a peak into their lives. Having your children looking at you so that when you miss them, you can just look right into their eyes on your desktop is a wonderful idea. My desktop is a photo that I took of bright orange and yellow/orange flowers with a black matte background so that the colors stand out boldly. I picked that photo because it just seems to evoke a happy and positive feeling in me. When I am at a loss for an idea or my brain needs to take a computer rest, I will just stare at the desktop photo and breathe and get back into my contented place. I love reading all of the other "shares" as to what people have on their desktop wallpaper. Such fun!. Also, thank you for the recommendation of Fences. I immediately downloaded Fences because a.) I love anything that is an organizational tool and b.) I LOVE that you can double click and all of the desktop icons "disappear"....genius!!
Happy Sunday, my friend!
xoxo
Claudia
@SocialMediaDDS That sounds great Claudia. You've got me thinking of taking a photo for the express purpose of using it for a wallpaper! I had never thought of that before!
Are you enjoying Fences!? ;-)
I used to have a photo of a statue of Buddha (from Bangkok) as my wallpaper. Now I don't have any. You have motivated me to change now to something more meaningful, like my favorite photo of my grandson. Interesting that you raise this question since I use the image of our computer wallpaper or our default homepage as an analogy for our habitual thinking patterns.
@galenpearl Well great minds think alike as the name of your site and the name of my book would attest to! ;-) The things in our environment affect how we feel so why shouldn't our wallpapers!?
My wallpaper on my laptop is a wedding picture of my husband and I. I love the reminder of that wonderful day. I haven't updated to my new little one because his pictures are everywhere and that day is a reminder of the love that brought him here. I love how people brought up their phone wallpaper too. Mine is my little boy and his daddy. I look at my phone more than my computer and it makes me smile every time. =)
@MelanieAThomp Hi Melanie! Isn't it nice how you can have photos on all your devices - little reminders of your blessings!
Hey Lori,
Always something that invokes warm positive feelings. Either a fond memory related to travel or something in nature (waterfall, beautiful sunset etc). Sometime I get lucky and can combine the two. We snagged a picture of the Pont Du Gard at sunset - a spectacular breathtaking view. Scenes from Nova Scotia also qualify (so many to choose from).
Riley
@Rileyhar Hi Riley,
Travel photos are great! I'm with you - anything that makes you feel good makes for a great wallpaper!
If you like Nova Scotia, tell me you've heard of this: http://rightsomegood.ca/ You and Kathy would LOVE this - I know I would! Watch the video at that link. It will make you want to go!
I have wall paper with a little calender for the month on the side, a great picture - usually one of a beach and an inspirational saying. Thanks for the heads up on Fences. Downloading now! :)
@CorinneRodrigues Hi Corinne! A calendar makes so much sense! How do you get three things on your wallpaper? I don't know how to get more than one. Do you use a program like Paint Shop to do it?
Yeah, Fences are great!
Silly me! I should have been more specific @Lori . For the last few months I've been downloading wall paper from BlueMountain. :)
@CorinneRodrigues Thanks Corinne! I'll check it out! :-)
I hadn't given my wallpaper much thought, Lori. It's just a generic Windows one, with an interesting picture of a leaf. I love nature, but I should change it out with some of the great pictures that I've taken recently on my roadtrip adventures....they would remind me of wonderful memories and help me to be present in each moment. Awesome conversation starter.
@Steve_Rice Hi Steve! There are so many ways to personalize our devices that I'm sure we're missing many! I learned recently that I could put both a desktop and a wallpaper photo on my iPod! How cool is that!
We can make these devices a part of our manifestation/inspiration strategy. Who knew!? :p
I love a variety of wallpapers Lori!
I guess as I love nature a great deal, I have a combination of pictures that are related to nature - trees, flowers, stream, rivers, mountain, or even dew drops, sand dunes etc. It's just anything that touches my heart. My kids are there too, but because I prefer a slideshow it keeps changing, so I get to see them off and on there too. :)
@Harleena Singh It sounds nice Harleena! You can get your desktop to run a slideshow! How do you do that? That would be cool!
@Lori Yes you can Lori. I don't know regarding your laptop but if you go to Control Panel and check out the Personalization niche - you would find the option there.
I currently have a picture of the chalkboard wall in my office which reminds me of my gratitude for all that I'm currently manifesting - mind, body, and soul! It's great because I actually work outside most of the time, so I get to "see" my office wall without actually being in there :),
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSo I like that idea Sabrina! You didn't compose a wallpaper of something you already had - you just photographed it! So this vision board is an "in progress" pictorial list? Cool!
You've got me thinking...I have a wonderful vision board but it's not in a place where I can see it all the time. Maybe I need to move it out into my office!
@Lori YES! Even if you took a lovely photograph of that vision board you could use it as your computer wallpaper as a consistent reminder! So glad I could inspire!
I have had just a few, all to do with nature. I have had a big beautiful sunset in the Indian Ocean with the brightest red sky that I have ever witnessed. Then there was a large iceberg in the Arctic Ocean. One could sail a small boat right through it to the other side, as though it had an inviting doorway. I also have an arctic wolf, sitting like a contented dog in the snow, with a smile clearly across his face.
@JimK Hi Jim,
It's interesting how many of us have our own photos as our wallpapers! Those photos sound amazing! I wish there were a way we could show our wallpapers right here in the commets rather than imagine what they look like! What do you think @livefyre ;-)
Do you change the photos often Jim? Update them when you get a new great photo?
@Lori @livefyre I should change my wallpapers more often than I do, lazy I guess. lol Can one share photos in here, like Copy and Paste?

This is my wolf from Alert.
@JimK Ah! I wondered if you named him!
For the past four hours there has been a Northern Parula, tiny beautiful bird outside our kitchen window. For the longest time I thought he was looking at me but my husband pointed out that he was seeing his reflection and likely challenging that "other" male. It's amazing, isn't it, even through glass to be so close to a wild creature!
@LoriSee how beautiful he is. With him, I got down on my hands and knees and he came right up to me, our noses were a couple inches apart. He stood stood there staring at me for about a minute or so until he got bored and then he left. His name is George, as in Curious George the Wolf..lol
@JimK @livefyre That worked - Wow Jim! That's amazing that he just sat there and let you take his picture!
@JimK Isn't it amazing how universally inspiring images of nature are! I think the reason that I actually have inspiring words instead of nature images is because I work outside - so my "wallpaper" is really the trees and sky surrounding me! Do you find yourself getting outside in nature often during the day, or is your wallpaper a bit of an escape when needed?
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSoI consider myself very fortunate really. I bought a home, a bit of a fixer-upper on top of a hill. What really sold me was the scenery. From my front deck I can see a about 20-30 kms out over Lake Ontario. I can also see three counties spread out before me. So, luckily I do not have to go far to see the beauty of nature. Nature is right there every day.
@JimK Wow, fortunate indeed! But really that good fortune sounds like something you attracted out of choice...the choice to build your wealth so that you could afford a fixer upper with a view...the choice to then buy that fixer upper and proceed to fix it up...and the choice to step back in awe and gratitude of it all so that you can really enjoy and appreciate it!Thanks for connecting Jim, and sharing your beautiful choices!
My nephew and my niece.... they are 5 and 3 respectively and they have adorned my desktop ever since they came into the world! And they live so far away that I miss them so much more!
@Hajra Aw! Sometimes it helps to have photos and sometimes it makes you miss them more. :-( Maybe you need to have photos of you WITH your niece and nephew?
@Lori I do have photos with them too! But I don't know why, I keep desktop wallpapers with just their pics!
Hi Lori,
So I didn't know what was there and had to look - same old blue with a Windows icon that came with the computer! My phone is more interesting - I change the wallpaper every time I need to change my focus. I notice that if I go with a chakra color, intensities come and go (really - I was surprised, too). At the moment it is showing the ocean, a lagoon, and a ton of palm trees, which means to me "more time to spend outdoor being active with the kids" (I picked one that looks like the beach here in Florida). Lo and behold, guess what I've been doing a lot of lately?
@Julie | A Clear Sign Hi Julie! Interesting! You use your phone wallpaper to help you manifest things! Say more about the chakra color - do you use a screen filled with that color or a picture with objects of that color? What do you mean by "intensities come and go"? And finally, why are you not doing this with your computer too!?!??!
@Lori I discovered it when one day I picked out a tiger hiding in the grass. Suddenly I was acting like that tiger! My aggressive side popped out completely out of the blue. So I decided to switch to something else, and I noticed that whatever it is, is what manifests. Pink = overly empathic = no good. A heart drawn on a beach = many opportunities to go to the beach with the kids. Some striped sneakers = me bouncing off the walls (good I guess if I need to exercise). Call it subliminal, call it what you will - it works. You can choose a color or a theme - works either way.
@Julie | A Clear Sign I like that! It's an intriguing way to manifest! Where do you find your pictures?
Ha -- my personal laptop has a picture of me hugging Josh Groban (my favorite singer). It's a wonderful moment that I don't want to forget, and it's been my background since probably the day after the concert! My work laptop has a generic background...I'm trying not to get too attached, since I have to give up this lovely MacBook Air at the end of my internship. :)
@annedreshfield I'd leave that one there myself Anne! How'd you get that photo? :-o
@Lori I was up on stage at one of his concerts and someone in the audience happened to get a great shot! I'm seeing him in Napa in a few weeks...maybe I'll have the chance to update the background to another picture of us. ;)
@annedreshfield You were on stage hugging the star? I'm going to that Napa concert with YOU!
Gak, my stomach went up into my throat and a pang of guilt ... oh god, I'm a bad Mum, again, I don't have my daughters smiley faces as wallpaper. Actually I'm with HerSparkle, I don't have any wallpaper, on anything!
@jackiewalker Well get to it Jackie! ;-) Funny, it was only as people started saying things like that that I realized I don't have any wallpaper on my laptop. We've both got our homework cut out for us!
I used to have a quote that said: "Why aren't you writing?" Now I have a photo of my six-month old grandson Henry who inspires me every minute because he's pure love.
@CharlotteRDixon Hi Charlotte! Welcome to Life, for instance! I can understand why you'd replace your wallpaper that shouted at you with a photo of Henry! I imagine that is inspiration enough to write? I can only imagine what it's like to have a grandchild! :-)
I have never put a Wallpaper on any of my devices! I wonder what that says about me? Can't be bothered? Lazy? I really don't know. My husband puts different family photos on his.
It's so funny, when I log onto a device, I just want to log on and get going......
@HerSparkle Hi Lisa,
I never thought of putting one on my laptop, perhaps for the same reason you haven't put any on your devices. But I can tell you that when I open my iPod and see the four of us standing there with my son in his grad gown, or when I see the photo of us cutting our anniversary cake...it just makes me smile inside. Every time!
@Lori You make a great point, Lori. I think I need to slow it down a bit and pick a few images that inspire me. I do this everywhere else, why not a device I look at every day?
As always, you make me think :)
