Have you seen the movie The Matrix? You can see the part about the pills here. In essence, the blue pill keeps you safely cushioned in a dream, in what we know as our reality, and the red pill makes you wake up and see a darker version of reality. The character in the movie is given a choice and he chooses the red pill.
I want to suggest another possibility; what if there were a yellow pill that gained us access to a magical world more beautiful than we can imagine most of the time? Maybe you have already taken the yellow pill!
Have you ever had a feeling to go (or not to go) to a certain place and later learned the feeling was right? Have you ever heard a voice in your head that was so compelling, so clear that you heeded it? Have you ever known something and not known how you knew, but you knew it with full confidence? Have you ever seen something you knew was not “there”, and yet see it you did?
Clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentenience, clairsentenience. They are called the four “Clairs”, four ways to access your intuition. We all have these four gifts though until we pay attention to them and develop them, we can be completely unaware they exist for us:
- Clairvoyance is the ability to see with your third eye.
- Clairaudience is the gift of hearing.
- Clairsentenience is the ability to sense something.
- Claircognizance is the ability to know something without knowing how you could possibly know.
These “Clairs” are keys which open the door to a magical, bright, beautiful (yellow-pill) world, one in which we’re connected to much more than we can discern with our five senses.
Examples from my life? Sure, but just remember this is my understanding and experience of the clairs which will differ slightly from the explanations at the links.
Claircognizance I was looking at some photos my brother-in-law had taken on his trip to Europe. At one photo where something caused me to ask, “What is that?” and then, before he could answer say, “It’s a forge.” He looked at me quizzically and said, yes, it was. There were no defining characteristics of a forge, no tools in the picture. I have never seen a forge before so how did I know it was a forge?
Clairaudience This is my strongest Clair. I have it to thank for meeting my husband. As my friend and I were moving through the dance club headed for the exit that night I came to a junction at which I heard (in my head) very clearly, “Go this way.” For some reason I didn’t hesitate. I changed direction. When I came around that corner I saw my husband for the first time.
Clairsentenience My clairsentient ability is the least developed, though I do have a fairly clear sense of people when I meet them or even just see a photograph.
Clairvoyance Through this Clair I have had the experience of “seeing” my client’s loved ones during a Reiki treatment. Usually they are standing at their right shoulder. One time I decided against telling a fellow I had seen his parents in the room, but it didn’t matter. When the treatment ended he looked at me and said, “My parents were here!”
Through Reiki I connect to this magical, yellow-pill world. It’s one of the reasons I love doing healing work. It reminds me that there’s much more to reality than what we typically perceive.
Have you had experiences with any of your Clairs? Do you have a primary one which you connect with regularly? Sit down, pour yourself a cup of tea and tell us; would you take the yellow pill?

Hi Lori
Very interesting subject. Yellow pill for me!
I have always had intuition and when I followed it, things would be fine and when I didn't I was sorry. Just have to be more intuned with it all the time.
Live in a house that once had a ghost in it. Once I was informed how to deal with it, I was able to tell him it was okay to go. Lots of things went on in the house, but will give a short version. One day I was doing dishes and I felt a hand on my shoulder. I knew there was no one there in the physical, but felt the presence of a 14 year old boy. It got my heart racing but I didn't look in the mirror above the sink. I knew I would be safe, then the hand was gone. Told a friend about it and she said to tell him it was okay to go. When alone I stood in my living room and repeated those words. No longer did I hear noises or feel like someone else was in the house. Over 20 years later a neighbor who had lived in the neighborhood back in 1955 said there was a 14 year old boy killed in our house by his father with a screwdriver. Our screwdriver was missing and my husband never felt like there was anyone in the house like my daughter and I did. My daughter also met a woman that had lived in the house as a young girl and she had the same feelings living here and they also hated going into the garage.
I have had many experiences like meeting someone for the first time and wonder what he was doing here of all places...but I knew we had never met. He felt the same way. It was an awkward situation because it seemed like along silence before we said hello. Had to comprehend what I was seeing.
Then when I needed my brother twice, he showed up on time. He lived a day away from me.
Now if I could just make this work in everything I pursue it would be terrific!
Great post.
Mary
@Mary Stephenson Wow Mary! That's an interesting story! You helped the boy to cross over! That's so nice how your brother showed up when you needed him! My husband has an uncanny way of being here when I need him, sometimes even before I know I do! Makes you know there is a bright world beyond what we normally perceive, doesn't it!
I think tuning in is key, don't you? We should have fun with it - pay attention to it.
Which is your strongest clair Mary?

@Lori I really don't know. Where does intuition fit into the picture? I have felt and seen a couple of my cats that died. I felt my mother in the room after she died. Then as in above my once haunted house. I have heard warning voices, when I followed them thinks turned out fine. I can pick up on people's moods, but that is probably a woman's think. So what do you think? As I really don't know how to answer the question.
Mary
@Mary Stephenson I think it's clairsentience and claircognizance. The four clairs are ways to connect to your intuition, or the voice of it. The more you focus on it, the stronger they become. I wish I could remember the name of the book which introduced me to the clairs. If I can find it, I'll come here and post it but it was a book loaned to me years ago :-( maybe @Julie | A Clear Sign can recommend a book?

Hi, Lori. This is my first visit to your site and I just love this topic :) Great metaphor about the yellow pill!
Like many people, I had no framework to understand my gifts until I grew up. As a kid and young adult, I couldn't decide if I thought the world was crazy for not seeing the things I did, or if I was the crazy one. Sometimes I just thought I had an active imagination and was good at guessing what the future would bring.
Like Julie, I took an intuition development course and started doing energy healing work, both of which have made my clairs very accessible. It was also my opportunity to take the yellow pill! Although the clairs come in different strengths on different days, they're about even now. Clairvoyance is the most constant, bringing visions of past + future timelines, and real-time viewing of energy. I also get smells + tastes which can be SO strong, though I'm still fine tuning those sensing skills.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with your clairs, Lori. So cool that your intuition lead you right to your husband! I can't think of a more inspiring example of why to build your clairs! :)
@LaurenLionheart Hi Lauren
You have a fun history with the clairs! All five are even and you have smell and taste! I can't imagine the taste one though I'd love to have more smell connections. I'm very big on aromas, which led me to aromatherapy, something I enjoy very much.
Yes, the meeting with my husband happened long before I could name a clair or explain what happened. I just thought it was God whispering in my ear since I had always trusted that at the right time He would bring the perfect husband to me.
I visited your site but couldn't add it to my Reader for some reason, and the RSS button didn't work! :-( I'd like to subscribe - please advise.
And welcome to Life, for instance!

@Lori Ooh I bet with your aromatherapy connection that smell will be the next clair to step up, and you'll intuitively help people choose therapeutic scents that way :)Thank you for checking out my site and mentioning the RSS problem. I hadn't noticed, though apparently it's been busted for months. All fixed now!
What you are describing to me Lori would be what I consider as a standard relationship with God through the holy spirit. After having followed the dark path of the red pill and shedding all the noise of the blue pill world one can hear and see by the dark knowledge of the spirit for it is dark because it is hidden from the natural mind as if it where in darkness. Like the roots of a tree the spiritual mind finds its way in darkness to the living water that it seeks. ( Sorry if your mind wants to equate darkness with evil not the meaning hear).
One of my favorites is personal prophecy this is when you have a desire of the heart and god sends someone who knows nothing about you or your desire to give you a word of encouragement about the desire. Both parties are encouraged that they are hearing from God and both are bonded together in their unity in God.
@johncharlesowens Hi John! Where've you been!?!?! I hope all is well in your world!
I like your interpretation of the clairs and especially the personal prophecy. It's so magical when just the right person comes along and says just the thing you need to hear. That, maybe more than anything, makes you feel this world is bright and magical and more than what we see with our five senses.
@Lori @johncharlesowens Hi Lori
All is well . I am glad that you missed me. It is not easy sometimes having a different view of the world then most and you wish that you could show them how bright and shiny it really is, but at last God has reserved that privilege for himself and we are left with pointing out what is wrong in the hope that they will go looking for what is right .
"Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
The last stage of enlightenment is the confrontation in love of another s pain.
@Lori The classic argument that their is no right is self defeating in that the statement makes itself of no account or to put it another way the statement that their is no right is a statement of right itself.
In other words non sense.
Their is only one path to our existence deliberate or not their is still only one path that resulted in our life in that, their is no right or wrong their is only what is which is what I call right and what is can be known.
However we are in agreement that each person is unique and that the thoughts that they think have never been thought and will never be thought again in just the same way and yes it is a great privilege to express ones thoughts freely.
Love can not be defeated and we love you and know how great a love is in you.
lots of love
John
@johncharlesowens We've ALL got different views of the world - that's what makes the discussions here so much fun! How boring it would be if we all saw it the same way! Personally, I don't believe there is a right or a wrong - just an opinion, a reality-version which makes sense to us. I'm glad you feel free to share yours knowing others won't see it in the way you do.
I can understand how the last stage of enlightenment could be the confrontation of another's pain. It is not easy to do, not before your grief has struck when you can only imagine, and not after when you know how hard it can be. But we do our best, don't we?
Lori, I just fell in love with you a little more! Clairvoyance and clairaudience are the strongest for me (especially when I'm doing coaching and healing work as well, vesseling love energy so that I can "tune in"), but like you I believe we ALL have access to ALL of them - if we simply trust and train them!
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSo That's how I understand it. I read a book about the four clairs years ago - can't remember the name of the book, but ever since then I've been paying attention!
Do you find your claircognizance and clairsentience are picking up for you? Claircognizance is the most zany one, isn't it! Knowing something and not knowing how you know but just knowing! How cool is that!
@Lori You know what? Anytime I trust (I mean REALLY trust) my intuition in general, I do find that my other "clairs" perk up and that I become more attuned to energy in all its forms!
Hi Lori,
I hadn't thought of it that way, but I guess I have clairsentience. I'm an empath, and I feel the emotions, illnesses, etc, of those in either physical or emotional proximity. I get a contact high when someone I'm with drinks caffeine! Often I can sense what's going on under the surface of a situation, though I almost never share unless asked. Most people don't want to hear, or they would have already worked it through for themselves.
I learned Reiki too, though now I mostly channel the energy spontaneously when needed. It works beautifully with stricken dogs, coming out of surgery too early, or right before merciful euthanasia.
What a great metaphor of the pills! I took the yellow pill on April 9, 2012, the day I met my Soul. I wrote about it in a post on May 13, 2012 on @deliberateblog . Swallowing the yellow pill, for me, means enjoying the conscious awareness of life as an awesome experience that the soul relishes.
Thank you for another beautiful post, Lori! I'm honored to be in the stellar company of your readers! Have an amazing Wednesday.
Carole
@Carole Remy@deliberateblog "
Swallowing the yellow pill, for me, means enjoying the conscious awareness of life as an awesome experience that the soul relishes." So nicely said Carole! You do Reiki too? I think Reiki is more often a gateway to healing work and not the final destination.
Your strongest clair is my weakest one yet. I think I have experienced, during a treatment, the feelings a person is feeling. Augh - that's a tough one to handle! Maybe I'll leave that one alone for now. Just for now.
I'm glad you joined the stellar company of the people who gather here on the porch!
Dear Lori,
I love this photo of Alex! He looks like the happy beautiful soul that he was and still is.
Of course I'd take the "yellow" pill and I guess I already have.
Clairvoyance is the strongest suit followed by clairaudience and clairsentience and claircognizance. I "see" loved ones who have passed and can describe them and I hear names, words and phrases too followed by feeling their feelings/physical pain and just plain "knowing."
In my twenties I was giving psychic readings when "people" began showing up. I'd see them and describe them and it would turn out that they were deceased relatives or friends of the client.
I had no idea I was a medium back then - frankly, I'd never even heard of one! And, I wasn't sure what I was "supposed" to do with this information either. It took the explosion of the Internet in the late 1990's for me to finally learn about mediumship and begin my development. That is when I started to come across information about mediumship readily and was finally able to identify what had been happening to me.
Throughout my life I've heard directives such as, "Go here or Do this," and following these "voices" has always led me toward something good.
Vivid dreams are a form of clairvoyance. I've always had vivid dreams and visitations from the deceased in dreams. One dream I had 3 months before we found out my father was sick (and he died 7 months later) was that he and I were at the movies. He was showing me a movie of all the wonderful times we'd spent together throughout my life from when I was small child to the present.
I woke up knowing this would be his last year on earth. I didn't want to believe it because he wasn't even sick then but I "knew" claircognizantly that it was going to happen
As we pursue our development whether it is our psychic development or mediumship, the way we receive information will change as we grow closer to Spirit.
What we begin with will be totally different in 5 years or even 10 years of our development. So, as we continue to work we will see that another of our "clairs" moves up and takes the number two spot or ties with number one, etc.
As a medium my first responsibility is to Spirit. I am the voice they no longer have so, I serve them not the living. I believe as Spirit sees your sincerity and commitment grow to serving they will help you bring forth each clair more clearly as needed to do the "work."
I'm looking forward to the next decade in my development to see what transpires and how I am called to serve spirit.
Thanks for talking openly about this Lori. It's wonderful to share in this conversation.
xoxo,
Angela
Dear Lori,
I have no doubt you're going to "see/hear/feel/know" more and more outside the treatment room! You're very gifted psychically.....whether you realize it or not.
xoxo,
Angela
@AngelaArtemis Hi Angela!
(This isn't Alex in the photo - just a flickr photo of a happy fellow, as I am sure Alex is now.)
I'm so glad you came over. If you and @Julie | A Clear Sign hadn't shown up, I was going to go and find you! ;-)
It sounds like your gifts came to you and you didn't have to go looking for them! That must have been an interesting experience, even as you didn't understand it. Thank God for the Internet and the abundance of information available today. Years ago anyone talking about this stuff was nearly virtually alone in their corner of the planet.
It's nice to know the clairs grow and switch places! I'm surprised at my clairvoyance coming up at all. I only "see" when I deliberately look and until recently, I only looked within the healing room during a treatment. Now, thanks to Alex, this is opening up. I was so surprised to see him at the deathbed of my brother-in-law. This was when I learned I COULD look outside a treatment. There is truly a wonderful world of spirit and support and light and love all around us - "yellow" fits is well, doesn't it?
I know this is your main topic at your place and expected there. (Can't wait for your Life of a Blogger" post!) but I felt I wanted to bring it up here. Do you know what I mean when I say I'm the person everyone tells their "wierd" stuff to - in whispers? I bet you do. And it's nice to meet others who have taken the yellow pill!
Very interesting, Lori. There was a time I used to think that life was a series of deja vus. I find that the thoughts and feelings I get in the morning usually come true. And sometimes I hate it that I couldn't stop certain things. Then of course I fall back on the Karma theory. I have a strong sense of intuition, too, as I've found out. Many times, we would be prepared to do something, make a visit, travel and to the annoyance of my folks, I've begged them to postpone it. So far, it has turned out to be the right thing to do. I've also been told that when I hold someone's hand, they feel the strength flowing to them. Interestingly, my son is that way, too. As a child, he would suddenly stop what he was doing and say "tomorrow.......(an event to happen)" and it would. He was accurate about visitors who had no idea they would be making the trip. Oh well...that would explain the always stocked refrigerator at my place :)
I would love to learn Reiki.
Now, I have to serve coffee to the voices having a party in my head. :-)
Love and hugs, @Lori
@Vidya Sury Hi VIdz! You have been having fun in the yellow-pill world! And your son too is intuitive! That's so cool! It sounds like you have a powerfully flowing energy too.
I've never had any precognition about events (and I don't really want to) but if it keeps you safe, that's a good thing.
It's funny when you start a conversation like this you hear all kinds of stories that people have been hiding in the back of the bottom drawers, afraid to share. I have lots and lots ;-)
Reiki is fun and easy. Another healing technique you can learn quickly without taking a course is Quantum Touch. This was where I started. I just bought this book: http://www.amazon.com/Quantum-Touch-Power-Third-Richard-Gordon/dp/1556435940 The author walks you through the healing technique which can even be taught to a child. If you were here,or I there, I could teach you! Pretty cool stuff.
Enjoy the coffee party!
Hugs!
Hi Lori, Oh, took the yellow pill a long time ago :) The neat part of what I do is that I get to experience all of those clairs (and more!) just the way that my clients do. I didn't know I could do this until I started doing practice readings and took a professional intuitive development course, and now I actually offer one! This is exciting stuff to me because I see how it expands people's lives enormously - and helps them. Everyone will have their own purpose and their own innate strengths, but spirit always guides us to the right thing for each of us. And all of us have the capability if we have the desire.
@Julie | A Clear Sign I knew you took the yellow pill Julie! How wonderful that you experience the clairs the way your clients do! Do you feel transported to a magical world when you are with a client? It makes, for me, the whole world bigger somehow and brighter.
As I understand it, we all have all four clairs and are usually unaware of them, or brush them off before we learn a little about what they are. Is this your understanding?
@Lori Well in my view there are many more than 4, but those are the basic ones. I also "smell" things and "taste" things and some other ones that are more obscure. But yes, everyone has them, and it is just a matter of deciding to work on noticing them and developing them. Our world is so fast and loud - intuition comes in a quiet, subtle way (usually!) so you have to slow down and intentionally be on the alert for it. There is an art to the noticing.
Sometimes it is like a magical world, a fascinating journey. Those are the times when I see a movie playing out in my head, or if I am actually present with a client, which is rare, I can sometimes see the movie playing over their shoulder while I'm talking to them. Then I can ask them questions and get their feedback on what spirit is telling me.
@Julie | A Clear Sign Interesting! I have heard of smelling, but not tasting! Cool!
