Today we welcome Hajra to host on the porch! Hajra blogs over here! Today she asks the question we don’t usually hear so early in the year but better too early than too late! Take it away Hajra!
It is the middle of February so a good time to talk about whether or not we have been faithful to ourselves. Yes, this is the question you dreaded just a month and a half ago: did we manage to keep our resolutions – or did we break them already?
Chances are the resolutions are fresh in your mind and you are trying your best to keep them but if you aren’t then it’s time to do some thinking!
I have always been the person who never stuck to the “New Year Resolution” tag. I always believe that if I want to change something about myself or the way I function, then I do it right away. I get to work on it right then, irrespective of whether it is January 1st or not! This happened when I caught myself eating chocolate on January 2, a few years back. And yes, the New Year resolution that year had something to do with consuming less chocolate.
I have seen that if I haven’t taken the first step towards making the change, then I really am not ready for it. It might sound harsh sometimes, but this is what I noted in myself. The bigger decisions in life do take time but what I am referring to, specifically, are the habits we choose to change – health resolutions, changes in lifestyles, and resolutions in our social life for example.
If we’ve slacked off on our resolutions by the middle of February then it is time for the question: were we really serious when we made those promises to ourselves?
Have you managed to keep your resolutions for 2013, at least until now? Do you think change begins when we make the decision or is it when we actually start the change? Do you wait for the New Year to make the changes you wanted to see all along or do you take the plunge right away?

my new resolution for this new year is to improving my english , grat post Hajra
No NYE resolutions so I am somewhat on track, no? I did, however, pick five words inspired by a post at LFI and Lori has made them into a beautiful work of calligraphy (the words are: act, enjoy, reflect, meditate, be thankful).
What a wonderful idea to call them intentions, a call for action!
Hope your dad is doing better and that your studies are going well, Hajra!

I too don't really do resolutions. I do, however, try to "be present in the moment." I can start to be a worrier and look ahead too much. So I really try to practice being present in whatever I am doing from washing my hands to cleaning the house to interactig with people. Once I did it for ahwile consistently it was easier, but something always seems to throw me off track! So I just start back at sqaure one again- like getting into these blogs and posting- it is so much of a joy to interact with everyone here. This is a warm firendly loving place, so I am really trying to participate more "in this moment." Thnaks for the topic!
@angel on a path A lot of us here are the non resolutions type. I can understand the point of looking ahead though personally I am more of the looking back too often person.

Hajra,
I'm not one for resolutions. Seems I'm not alone in that here on the porch!
This year I did, however, choose five words which I want to shape 2013. I wrote them out and put them on my desk to remind me. Forgetting the Intentions is the worst, isn't it. And for me, calling it an Intention suggests there will be help in achieving it. I set it and I release it. Intentions are magical!
@Lori I love Intention setting Lori! There was actually a bit of chaos around my New Year on the Western calendar, so I'm going to honor my New Year as NOW since we just celebrated it on the Lunar calendar - and follow in your footsteps of setting intentions!
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSo @Lori Are your intentions like bucket lists or just some change you intend to bring about?

@Lori @Hajra I'm so fortunate to have traveled throughout the world - Asia, Australia, Europe, Central America, the South Pacific - but still have South America, more of Asia, and another trip back to Europe on my bucket list!
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSo @Hajra Love the travel Intentions! I created a board on Pinterest of "Inspiring Destinations": http://pinterest.com/lorigosselin/inspiring-destinations/ with 77 pins so far! I feel transported just to visit this page! Do you have an inspiring destination on your list for 2013?

@Hajra @Lori It all depends! Usually it's a small shift as I find that I respond best to small shifts rather than huge overhauls - but every once in awhile I throw in a "big wild dream" in there (usually those are related to travel)!
@Sabrina at MyMiBoSo If you think about it, we could emphasize the beginning of each month by setting Intentions for it. Why do we don it only at New Years! Each month marks the beginning of twelve!
@Lori @Sabrina at MyMiBoSo I always have certain behavioral intentions I work on every month.

@Lori Brilliant idea! I already do this with my monthly check ins for my coaching practice and would love to carry it over to my personal life too!
@Lori A lot of us are not the resolution type! We just go for change when we know there is a need!
Intentions are magical indeed!

I haven't been a resolutions person either, Hajra - I'm pretty good at getting things done! But this year I decided I would do something a little radical, and have a list of 33 things I want to achieve before I am 33 (which is in Feb 2014). It's stuck to the door of my fridge so I see it every day. Currently at least 10 things have been crossed off the list so I'm doing alright!
@razwanawahid Kind of like a bucket list right? I feel there are thing which I want to do but I don't have a fixed goal of when I want to fulfill them. Maybe I might make a lit and tick it at the fridge, a brilliant idea to keep being reminded of it everyday!
And going by the number, it looks like you are on track! Would you mind sharing some resolutions from the list?

@Hajra It's just a list of things that have been in the back of my mind to do and I figured if they're not written down, they're not getting done! It ranges from things like finishing decorating my apartment, to spending 2 weeks with my family, to becoming fluent in French.
33 things before 33. The challenge has been set !
I didn't have any resolutions per se, but there were some things in my life I had started prior to the end of the year that I'm still on track with.
So far, so good; I've had a really good start to the year business-wise and because I have been paying a lot more attention to that it has taken me out of the blogs. But that's not a bad thing, it just 'is.'
Good to see you, hope all is well. Are you in school right now?
@bdorman264 I am kind of getting back on track. I just had a bad two weeks (my dad had a stroke) and now I see life differently and am reorganizing the goals but they aren't resolution as such though.
I had a few blogging goals but that's taken a back seat. I have a few academic goals for this year which I hope to accomplish and I am on track. Let's hope life gets back to normal quick!
And yes, I am in school - spring term just started! :)

I read this and thought to myself, "I didn't make a resolution this year!" Then I realized I did and I'm doing ok at it, my resolution was to read a devotional each day. I've definitely missed some days but I'm happy that I'm working towards it becoming a simple habit. The fact that I forgot it was my resolution tells me that it was important to me regardless of the fact that I made it on Jan 1st! I just knew it was something I wanted to do! :) (I think I even started before the new year... Lol) Did you make a resolution this year?
@MelanieAThomp LOL! Like my dad always says, change happens not on Jan 1 but on any day when you are ready for it and working towards it!
I didn't make a resolution, I just always thought that no matter what happened I wouldn't worry too much in 2013. No matter how tough the going gets, I will learn to keep it under control and be calm - I am trying but it is tough! :(
Latest blog post: I don't need you
@Hajra @MelanieAThomp Not worrying and keeping it under control and being calm - all noteworthy resolutions Hajra!
@MelanieAThomp @Lori They are the most challenging especially when you realize that you tend to bounce back quite often! :( LOL
Latest blog post: I don't need you
@Hajra @Lori Behavioural resolutions, I think, would be the most challenging. What do you think?
@Lori @MelanieAThomp Too much to handle actually! Though I usually have certain behavioral resolutions over time - not necessarily on Jan 1 though!
