What Makes Your Heart Sing?

What Makes Your Heart Sing?

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to be a writer. I was nine when I started to write my first book and eighteen when I wrote, re-wrote, researched and re-wrote again my second book. I was an English Major in university. Yet I set my writing aside again and again in my life.

“You’ve got to live life before you can write about it,” my English professor once said to me. I guess I had a lot of living to do.

When I was forty-three I sat at a computer one day, opened a blank document and started writing my life story. I wrote a twenty-five page document which eventually tripled in length as I added details. The entire time I was writing I didn’t tell anyone about it. I kept it a secret and inside my heart was singing, “I’m writing! I’m writing!”

Ten more busy-living years passed before I completed and published a book; The Happy Place.

I’m happy to share that today my heart is singing again. I’m working on my second book; a book about community-building!

If you have sipped tea or coffee here on the LFI porch you know I’m intensely interested in community-building. If you have come to one of the LFI Hangouts, you have likely seen me nearly biting my tongue to not constantly extoll the virtues of a true community–or talking non-stop about community-building. It, too, makes my heart sing.

I don’t know how long it will take me to complete this project but I don’t really care. I plan to celebrate each word I write, each edit, each rewrite; each small win. I am fully enjoying this journey. My heart is singing and it’s such a wonderful feeling.
