How Does Your Intuition Come Through?

How Does Your Intuition Come Through?

Today we welcome Julie Barrett to host here at Life, for instance! Julie brings an intriguing perspective as she teaches about intuition at her her blog. To use her words, she “is a psychic intuitive and teacher of spiritual development, signs and synchronicity.” How cool is that! Take it away Julie!

Have you ever heard that the best way to access your intuition is through meditation and quieting the mind? The purpose is supposed to be to create a “space” where you can experience your inner guidance coming through, loud and clear.

The only thing is, creating mental silence is hard!  It’s loud in there.  Have you ever noticed how much activity in the form of mental chatter actually goes on in your head throughout your day?

I decided to see if there was another way.  I started off by exercising.  As I burned off excess energy, I mentally ticked off everything on my to-do list, all of my future planning, all of the questions I had.  Then I would listen.

That didn’t work.

I tried counting, to give my mind a resting a place. I never got any guidance. It became sort of quiet in there (except 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4). I didn’t know why I could so easily get information that was so helpful for other people, but I wasn’t getting any for myself. Then I noticed something strange.

Later in the day when I was doing something completely different, all of a sudden a solution or a great idea would pop into my head, completely unexpectedly. It turned out that all I had to do was create a space in there.  It was more a way of paying attention than anything else.

Suddenly I took notice of the signs that kept repeating themselves.  Coincidences occurred.  I looked up and noticed every single person that came into my life and spoke to them. I had to stop thinking ahead and start living exactly where I was.  I started feeling more than thinking.  It turned out that my gut knew a lot more than my head did. I noticed that there was more than one voice chatting on in my head.  There was mine and…something else.  What was it?

It was my intuition.  My guidance.  My answers.  My next steps and ideas. It didn’t have anything to do with logic or reason.

Do you live according to what’s logical?  Do you sometimes take an unexpected next step because you got a wild idea to try it?  How does your intuition come through?
