Community of the Heart

Community of the Heart

Four years ago, I wrote a post about the evolution of Community.  It seems even more relevant today than it was when I wrote it, particularly these lines:

Community is precious to us … Humans are wired for community, it’s our natural state.  The time is coming when these words will be more than a collection of letters on paper or on a screen; we are all in this together.

Sadly, and not the way I envisioned it then, that time is now.

Never has Community been more challenged than it is today when pandemic responses have kept us apart to keep us safe.  Community is one of the biggest casualties of the 2020 – 2021 pandemic.

My heart aches for what we are experiencing.  My mission at Kalliergo is to spread Community Consciousness around the globe.  It seems the pandemic has begun that work as we are more aware than ever of the importance of Community.

By Community consciousness I mean (#1) awareness of how wonderful Community is, (#2) knowledge about how groups evolve into Community, and (#3) knowing how to facilitate that process.

It’s all in Sounding the Drum The book is a simple guide to Community Building that you can read in 2-3 hours.  The Appendix is filled with exercises you can use to build your own Community.

How can you get started?  Put a notice on Facebook saying you are gathering people to have a Community Building Experience and invite people to get together with you, via Zoom or in person, on a weekly basis to engage in this experience.  Then, at the appointed time, make a cup of iced tea or coffee, bring your screen to your porch or deck and facilitate this experience with old and soon-to-be-new friends.

I wrote a book about Community building so that anyone can learn to build Community in their lives.  It is a step-by-step guide to get you started.

The world needs more Community today!  Will you build one?
