How Are You Now?

I’ve stopped counting the weeks. When I first decided to shelter at home, I thought it would be for only two weeks (remember those good old days!?) As the weeks passed, each Friday on our family Zoom chat, I would ask one of my nieces, How many weeks is it now? I can’t even remember the last time I asked her that.
These certainly are strange times and everyone you speak with has a story about it. Everyone is impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in a different way – seeing it through their own lens.
I have had to remind myself, more than once, of my coping plan: don’t look too far ahead, make a plan for today and maybe tomorrow, replace offline activities with corresponding online ones.
Personally, this meant instituting regular Zoom visits with family and friends – even my Book Club went online: Professionally, there was little that changed since I have been delivering my Kalliergo programs online since early in 2019.
Right now I’m attempting to distract myself from COVID-19 by focusing on preparations for my greatest Life adventure yet: Soon, I am moving to Ottawa where my daughter and her husband live. Talk about Life surprising you!
Wait! Distract myself from COVID-19?! Impossible.
I recognize what is happening. Even as I grieve for the losses and the upheaval in the world, I rejoice that we are breaking out of our pre-COVID chaos, changing the world, at last. Community and connection have become the coveted currency. The world is marching toward community. I am in that march.
I deliver workshops that teach community leaders how to build community with their groups; workshops that teach Professors/instructors/teachers how to build community in their virtual classrooms; workshops that teach student leaders how to knit their groups into communities. I customize programs for any group/organization that wants to build a community culture, and it all happens online.
When I work with students – and with the faculty members who work with them – I reach future business leaders, politicians, teachers, researchers, psychologists; future parents!
Imagine the community consciousness spreading around the globe with these initiatives!
