We had a great Google+ Hangout the other day and the topic was this: would you rather be rich or famous? Yikes – what a discussion!

At first everyone answered the question like this – give me the money and anonymity – I don’t want to be hounded by the paparazzi. That was too easy. So we refined the question: what do you value most – the recognition you get from a job well done or the money you receive from it? If you are a new blogger, for instance, you might relate to the first scenario – you’re having fun, producing successful posts, but there’s not a penny in sight. You are being acknowledged but you’re not producing an income.

What do you really want in life? The consensus that the very brilliant, creative and fun Hangout group came to (let me lay it out for you very clearly here) is everything!

We want a lot of money, at least enough to give us security and lots of extras. We want time to enjoy that money. We want to eliminate money worries and, yes, we’ll take some recognition as well. In other words, we want to enjoy the journey but we’ll take that journey in first class if you please.

Which brought up another question; do we want what we say we want badly enough to do something about it? And if we’re not moving consistently in the direction of these dreams, maybe they’re not what we really want after all? Maybe we’re happy exactly where we are?
